The adult drawing and painting classes run on a Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The evening classes are busy and there may be a short waiting list to get into them.
Jon Hoad is teaching our evening classes and Nicky De Graaf teaches our daytime adult art classes. They are currently taking payments on a 4 week basis.
Nicky DeGraaf also takes booking for her art classes online through her own website.

Course Costs £56 per 4 week session. Payment should be made on week 1 of the session. The New block starts on the 4th of May 2026.
Should you wish to join after the course starts we can arrange that and you would simply pay for the remaining weeks.
About the adult drawing and painting classes
Often people are interested in joining art class but have managed to convince themselves they can’t draw or are no good. This is a mindset that Jon Hoad aspires to change, everyone has creativity locked inside, they just need to find the right key!
In his drawing class Jon Hoad will be working with beginners in the class to develop basic drawing skills, teaching simple techniques to improve both ability and confidence. For those with more experience, Jon will offer his help and advice in the subject area you are keen to focus on .
The course will cover work in the following materials
- pencil
- colour pencil
- charcoal
- pastel
- pen & ink
- acrylic paint
- gouache paint
There are supplies of these at the Workshop and individuals are encouraged to bring their own materials along.
Nicky De Graaf currently runs our Monday 1pm – 3pm. Friday 10am- Noon beginners drawing and painting class and 1pm-3pm drawing and painting class. Ideal for beginners and covers a wide variety of mediums and techniques aimed at helping you learn and improve your skills. For those with a bit more experience Nicky will be happy to guide you on personal projects to increase your ability or to learn a new material. Nicky works with coloured pencils, acrylics, pastels, watercolours and ceramics in her own work which you can find on her instagram.
The classes are aimed at being informal, fun and friendly. These classes are also suitable for people interested in doing portfolio work.

About the tutors
Jon Hoad has been a professional freelance artist for 30yrs. During this time he has made CD and album covers for various bands, done product artwork with Black & Decker and illustrations for archeological companies amongst other things. His main passion though is paleontology and paleobontany. Jon’s artwork depicting recreations of prehistory have been featured in the national press and on the National Geographic website. His webpage Art of Ancient Life features his work in this field.
Nicky De Graaf is our most recent addition to the Workshops tutors. She has been working self employed for the past 4 years doing wildlife art work specialising in Pastel, Acrylics and coloured pencil. She has undertaken numerous courses and lessons with well known, experienced Artists to broaden her own skill set. You can visit her webpage here.
