About the Classes

This course block of classes allow individuals to have a go at sculpting in clay. It is entirely suitable for beginners or intermediate level students. Starting with simple techniques in pinch potting you will quickly learn how to build and alter forms to make a wide variety of objects. Not everyone comes to classes armed with ideas and so there is a variety of magazines and books to help inspire! You are welcome to have a go at whatever you like and you will be given guidance on the level of complexity before starting.

The classes are aimed at being an informal, fun and enjoyable. More importantly a chance to unwind and explore creativity that may or may not have lain dormant for some time!

The classes include

  • Hand building to create sculptural forms
  • Slab building
  • Sgrafitto using coloured slips
  • Low reflief work
  • Functional ware
  • There is a potters wheel and class members can have a go at throwing once the course is underway
  • Instruction on finishing non functional or sculptural items in acrylics
  • Glazing of functional items in underglaze with a clear glaze on top.

The course costs* cover clay, firings and paints or glazes for finishing.
